Lions are open to everything that helps improve team

The Detroit Lions finished the past 2009 season 2-14 and had totally 30 losses in the previous two seasons. They were bad enough and eager to have improvements. So it’s no surprise that they are willing to offer the No. 2 pick in the draft as the price for a trade and they have intention to pursuit free agent running back LaDainian Tomlinson.

“We’re open to just about everything,” Detroit coach Jim Schwartz said Thursday at the NFL scouting combine. “Whether you keep the second pick or whether you trade down, it doesn’t change what you have to do—that’s make good decisions in the draft. There are blue chip players available a lot of different spots in the draft.”

Ranking 24th in the league with 101 yards per game and improving from 0-16 in 2008 to only 2-14 last year, the Lions are in need of upgrading their running back. Having Tomlinson put on Lions jersey is not a bad idea, so we can expect the two sides to start negotiation in near future.

Infected tooth caused Lions safety to miss game

Sometimes infected tooth can cause enough discomfort to prevent you from doing important thing, like missing a game. The Detroit Lions starting free safety Louis Delmas was just held out of Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings by such discomfort.

Delmas felt increasing discomfort during warmups before Sunday’s game, and the team had to replace him with Marquand Manuel, who did not finish the game and left in the third quarter with a shoulder injury and was replaced by Kalvin Pearson. And it was the first game Delmas missed since he put on Lions jersey after being drafted by the team in the second round out of Western Michigan. He had been the starter at free safety for all the first eight games of the season.

The Lions right guard Stephen Peterman and cornerback Jack Williams also left the game in the third quarter with injuries, and the injuries just made it even easier to the Vikings to beat the 1-7 Lions. The game ended with Vikings’ 27-10 victory.

Lions Coach expects WR and RB to play against Seahawks

Two weeks after their playing together against the Washington Redskins, the Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford, wide receiver Calvin Johnson and running back Kevin Smith will likely play together again this weekend, this time against the Seattle Seahawks.

Stafford has been limited in practice for this week with a sore right knee; Johnson has missed the Lions past two games with the same injury but he has been able to practice all the week; Smith injured a shoulder during last weekend’s 17-10 loss to St. Louis Rams and missed Wednesday’s practice but took part in workouts Thursday and Friday. All of the three are expected by Coach Jim Schwartz to wear back their Lions jerseys and play at Seattle this Sunday.

As the group of three led the Lions to their only win of the season by playing together against the Redskins, perhaps Schwartz just hopes that the same thing will happen this Sunday but uniting the three again.

Vikings RB Peterson was limited in practice with back injury

Peterson was hurt during the Monday game against the Detroit Lions. Three days later, the team announced that the starting running back was placed onto the team’s injury report. Peterson has been the league’s leading rusher and rushed for 92 yards and made one touchdown during the game against the Lions.

On Wednesday’s workout, safety Madieu Williams was also limited with a shoulder injury. And linebackers Erin Henderson and E.J. Henderson did not practice at all. Erin missed because of a calf injury, and E.J., Erin’s brother, who is also the team’s leading tackler this season and had eight tackles in 27-13 win over the Lions on Sunday, missed because he had a shoulder injury.
